Midjourney is a San-Francisco-based generative-AI platform that transforms natural-language prompts into high-resolution, stylised images. Launched in open beta on 12 July 2022, it has become one of the most-used text-to-image tools, operating through both a Discord bot and an increasingly full-featured web interface.
Midjourney’s proprietary diffusion models (versions 1-7) support prompt-driven creation, upscaling, in-painting, zoom-out, region variation and extensive style controls, giving artists, designers and content creators fine-grained creative freedom.
The project is led by founder David Holz under the banner of Midjourney, Inc., and it continues to iterate rapidly—adding a browser-based editor, collaborative “rooms,” and subscription-tiered access—positioning itself alongside competitors such as OpenAI’s DALL-E and Adobe Firefly while emphasising highly artistic outputs and an active community-driven roadmap.
